ἀξί-ωμα, ατος, τό, that of which one is thought worthy, an honour, γάμων ..ἀξίωμ' ἐδέξατο E.Ion62; οἳ τὰς πόλεις ἔχουσι κἀξιώματαib. 605; κοινῆς τραπέζης ἀ. ἔχειν Id.Or.9; τὸ τῆς πόλεως ἀ. the dignity of the city's representative, D.18.149.

2. honour, reputation, E.Supp. 424, Th.2.65, etc.; ὢν ἐν ἀξιώματι ὑπὸ τῶν ἀστῶν Id.6.15; τὸ τῶν ἐλευθέρων γυναικῶν ἀ. D.59.113: c. gen. objecti, ἀ. ἔχειν ἀρετῆς claim on ground of merit, Arist.Pol.1281b25.
