ἀναπνέω, Ep. impf. ἀμπνείεσκον A.R.3.231: Ep. aor. imper. ἄμπνυε (v. infr.):—
take breath, στῆθι καὶ ἄμπνυε Il.22.222: more commonly c. gen., enjoy a respite, recover from, ἀνέπνευσαν κακότητος 11.382; ὥς κε ..ἀναπνεύσωσι πόνοιο 15.235; τῆς νόσου S.Aj.274; ἀ. ἐκ τῆς ναυηγίης Hdt.8.12; ἐκ καμάτων IG14.14 (Syrac.); ἀνέπνευσα ἐκ σέθεν by the help I recovered, S.OT1221: c. part., ἀ. τειρόμενοι Il. 16.42; ἐς τεῖχος ἀλέντες 21.534: abs., revive, X.An.4.1.22, D.18.195.

2. πυρεῖα ἀ. revive, burn up again, Thphr.HP5.9.6.

II. draw breath, ἀ. πάντα καὶ ἐκπνεῖ Emp.100, cf. Pl.Phd.112b, etc.; ἀ. πυκνά Hp.Mul.2.203; gather breath before a race, Pi.N.8.19: metaph., ἀ. οὐχ ἅπαντες ἐπὶ ἴσα ib.7.5.

2. c. acc., draw breath from, inhale, τὴν οἰκείαν ἀρχήν Dam.Pr.8:—
