con-sōbrīnus, i, m., and -a, ae, f. [soror].

I. In a restricted sense, a designation of the children of two sisters, the child of a mother's sister; but more freq. consobrini is used of all cousins-german, the children of brothers or sisters; cf. Dig. 38, 10, 1, 6; Isid. Orig. 9, 6, 14.—In the former sense, masc., Cic. de Or. 2, 1, 2.—In the latter, masc., Cic. Off. 1, 17, 54; id. Lig. 4, 11; cf. Dig. 38, 10, 10, 15; fem., Cic. Quint. 4, 16; Nep. Att. 2, 1.—

II. In gen., a relation, cousin, in any degree, Suet. Calig. 26; id. Claud. 26.
